So for the longest I've wanted to learn to knit. My grandma crochets and does the most beautiful work so I live vicariously through her. Well in my quest I bought Stitch and Bitch. I have yet to sit down and read it, maybe one day.
With that being said, my sister and I went to the mall today which always includes a trip to the bookstore. I found some knitting books in the bargain bin and had a thought why not have a knitting giveaway! so here they are!!
Number 1: Mother of Purl by Edith Eig

And Number 2: knits three way by Melissa Matthay

Here's a book review for this one

I've been making things on and off for years, although admittedly, my projects are few and far between. My favorite, I guess, was a hand embroidery done for my soon-to-be hubby (at the time, we have since successfully tied the knot) that I later framed using wood scraps and extra glass from my parents' basement. The only thing I purchased for the entire project was the stain for the wood. I think it turned out beautifully, if I do say so myself. :)
I started knitting seriously in December. I have only finished a few projects so far, but my favorite project was definitely the coffee cup cozys my husband and I knit. We get compliments on them all the time, and they are cute and fuzzy. :) I also have a few tips for new knitters: if you want to learn to knit, but are having trouble figuring out what a book is telling you, check out YouTube.com or knittinghelp.com for video instructions. This makes it a lot easier to see what you're supposed to be doing. My second tip is to not be afraid to try your hand at something new that seems hard. It's one of the best ways to learn new skills, and if you mess up, you can always frog it! Lastly, all knitters and crocheters should check out www.ravelry.com to keep track of your yarn stash, queue up new projects, search patterns, and find a local knitting/crocheting group!
I just started Knitting. I learned how to crochet when i was about 7 from my mom. But knitting always intimidated me. I do however LOVE me some yarn.
DH insisted i needed a new hobby (that wasn't jewelry related) that i could do away from home in the company of actual adults, and a knitting circle immediately came to mind. I took my first (and only) class about 3 months ago. Since then i've made one scarf, one set of newborn socks, a car seat blanket for a newborn and now i'm working on a custom scarf for my husband for Christmas (then i'll attempt some longies for my daughter).
I have been crocheting on and off since I was 9 years old, so that would be 17 years. You would think I'd be an expert by now but that is not the case! I can do all of the basic stitches and do well when someone shows me how to do something. I recently decided to tackle following a pattern and it has been going very well. I taught myself how to knit 2 years ago and can do very basic stitches with that. I like crochet better. Tips for a newbie would be to start with something small and basic. I've found YouTube videos to be very helpful if you don't have someone close that can show you something or answer questions. My favorite thing I've ever made was a baby blanket for a friend's baby shower, it turned out so cute and I spent tons of time making it perfect!
I've been making things ever since I can remember. My mom taught me to sew with the sewing machine when I was about 10, and I learned to knit and crochet before that. I've recently become much more into knitting and sewing. My favorite thing I've made recently is a pair of longies for my daughter. My tip for a newbie is: don't be afraid to make mistakes and don't be afraid to ask questions!
