I know I'm late with this post.. But there is a surprise at the end =)

Forgive me I'm sorry....

In this post I want to talk about reusable feminine products. As in cloth pads and menstrual cups. I for one do not use menstrual cups but I've never really been a tampon girl, but they do get rave reviews from many of my friends. Brands include Diva Cup and The Keeper.

I on the other hand have always used pads and always been a Always girl, but about 10 months ago I purchased a few WAHM made cloth pads from etsy and fell in love. I have few different kinds. Some from pleat , here , here , here, here, and my favorite ones are from Crea8tiveMama. I also got 3 from a good friend from here which are very high on my list to!

Here's my stash!! it's missing about three pads that are in the wash lol =)

For staining I use bac-out by biokleen and it takes out any stain I've ever had! When changing my pads I have three wetbags which are bags with either a zipper or velcro lined on the inside with PUL to keep them waterproof....2 bigger ones for the bathroom and one small one for my purse.....run a little cold water on them and shove them in there until it's time to wash. Some people use a wet pail for them under the sink I've been thinking about this but haven't done it yet.

Now on to the dangers in pads and tampons...I was doing some reading here and was very surprised and what I found. Now this article deals mostly with tampons and the asbestos they include which makes you bleed more in turn having to use more tampons. Disposable Pads can harbor bacteria which can cause yeast and bacterial infections in your girly bits. Also they include plastics that include rayon. Most are made with a chlorine compound which includes dioxin and per the EPA is the most potent carcinogen known to science. The average women use approximately 15,000 pads over the course of her lifetime. The effect of continual exposure to dioxin, which is forever stored in fat cells, may become cumulative and deadly.

So now that I have scared you enough how about something fun! A giveaway!!!

Traci at Crea8tiveMama has been gracious enough to add to the stash I'm giving away she has included one pads and one liner.

I have one of her pads also that is in the bunch, 2 pads from here, and 2 I made.

For entries tell me if you have made the switch to reusable feminine products
If not tell one green thing you've done this year

  1. I haven't used mama cloth yet, but I do use a Diva Cup. It's great! And doesn't give you that icky dry feeling. I've been in the market for some mama cloth as backup :)

  2. One green thing...well since my son is not quite 1 year old I'd say that one green thing is cloth diapers! :) I also use unpaper towels and dryer balls. :)

  3. I have switched to cloth pads already, which I did this year. I need to explore more WAHM options.... I have told some of my friends about this and a couple seem interested!

  4. I've been using cloth pads for a while and am a fan! I tried a diva cup, but it was too much like a tampon for me (which doesn't work well with a prolapse!)

  5. I haven't used MamaCloth yet, but plan to once AF returns (I BF my 10 mo old son and it hasn't come since i gave birth). I am really excited to give cloth a try, as we absolutely love our son's cloth diapers.
my biggest green thing i have done this year is put up a clothesline and use it whenever possible. This requires some researching the weather to know which days of the week to do laundry. I love hanging out our wash, and i have noticed a drop in our utilities.

  8. I have been wanting to make the switch and have been waiting. I ordered a starter kit from a WAHM who had her twins at only 28 weeks so I told her to put my order on hold. I can't wait to make the switch and would love to start sooner! :D

  9. I have not gone to reuseable feminine products, but your blog has intrigued me. One green thing that I have done this year is change the way I do laundry. I know use Crunchy Clean detergent, and use fuzzy wuzzy dryer balls instead of dryer sheets. I've also gotten rid of my fabric softener and use vinegar instead. My husband and I have been very happy with the change!

  13. I hope to switch to reusable products (probably a Moon Cup and cloth liners) whenever I get my first postpartum period. I'm trying to be more "green" since my daughter was born, and one thing I've done is to quit buying paper towels and switch to rags for cleaning and cloth napkins for meals.

  14. I haven't made the switch yet, but I am in the process of doing so. I have a very limited income, so I'm starting with giveaways and then when my income picks up a little, I will be purchasing some as well. I am also trying to make the switch to cloth diapers for my son. We also use green cleaners around the house. We recycle everything we can, glass, plastic, aluminum, paper, cardboard, and we have a compost pile.

  16. it's funny. i tried for FIVE years to get pregnant, and nothin' happening. Five. Years.
I know some women try longer, but to me, that seemed like a very long time.
Anyway,I switched to reusables and guess what...
well, he's 3 months old and although i'm breastfeeding him exclusively, i'm not entirely amenorrhea girl, so this strikes me as "cool beans" in terms of giveaways.
that said, i'm also a huge fan of the moon cup, but since my oldest (who is going on puberty, and yes, i realize that irony of the five years of trying, well, they're ten years apart!) is on the verge of starting her cycles (dratted hormones!) and it is my utmost goal to normalize cloth/reusable for her, this would be spiffy too.

  18. I haven't made the switch yet because I haven't gotten my 1st cycle since having my son but would love to make the switch!

We've done a few things this year to go green... cloth diapers, line drying, recycling, upcycling, boying organic/locally grown, etc...

  22. I've used cloth pads for about 3 years. Before that I had a Diva cup for a year. Nowadays I only use the Diva when I go to the beach or the pool. Will never ever go back to disposable pads or tampons.
